The Long Stone Minchinhampton (Copyright John Hewett 2000)

The Long Stone Minchinhampton: Long Stone at Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire, England.

A naturally holed stone of the local "Pudding stone" conglomerate or oolite about 2.8m high sited by the Barrow of Gatcombe. One of the holes was said to have the unusual property of healing sick children passed through it. Other legends include it defying all attempts to move it and a tendency of a phantom black dog to appear in its vicinity. The only black thing I saw when I was there was a lone policeman patrolling Gatcombe Park, Princess Anne's home.
