The Tresvennack Pillar
Tresvennack Pillar, the Menhir at One of the finest of Cornish Menhirs, 11ft (1.2m) high and set 4ft (1.2m) into the ground. In 1840 a large stone slab was discovered buried some 2ft (0.6m) south of the pillar. This covered a pit in the subsoil, which contained 2 Middle Bronze age urns. One of them was very large and contained cremated human bones, the other contained a powdery substance. The top of the pillar out of reach of man and cattle is covered in a forest of ancient lichens and mosses and appear as if they too are as old as the Bronze age. |
